Welcome to the Kentucky Defense Counsel web site. Whether you are a first-time visitor or a frequent user, you will benefit from the information and opportunities which are available on this site. We have recently redesigned the site to make your experience more functional and rewarding.
Our Mission Statement
The Kentucky Defense Counsel strives to increase the quality of legal services which its members render to their clients, facilitate the communication of such information, ideas, and litigation techniques as to improve the skills of its members, and improve the administration of justice in our courts.
Our Membership Benefits
What does it cost to join?
As a first time member of Kentucky Defense Counsel, your first year of membership is complimentary.
Any returning members may currently join for $95. KDC's fiscal year runs July 1st through June 30th; members are generally billed in June for the next year's dues.
Members that are age 70 or more, and have been a member of KDC for ten or more years, retain membership at $25 per year.
Additionally, if you are a member of Kentucky Defense Counsel and have never been a member of Defense Research Institute (DRI), you can receive a one year complimentary membership in DRI.
What benefits do I receive?
• Annual Seminar.
Once a year, the KDC holds its annual seminar at which it presents speakers on issues of importance to its members. Additionally the KDC hosts a cocktail party at the seminar to provide an opportunity for KDC members and guests to socialize on an informal basis.
• Regional meetings.
KDC members are invited annually to the DRI Southern Regional Meeting with defense counsel from Tennessee and Mississippi, to socialize, network, and share information regarding interests common to defense practice.
• Membership Roster.
Need help from an attorney in another part of the state? KDC’s membership roster is an excellent source for case referrals or to obtain information about local court practices. You are now able to search our database by first or last name, firm name, city and/or judicial district.
• Website.
This site features a "new case” update and archive, links to articles submitted by our members, a member directory, helpful links to the KBA, DRI, AOC, and other websites, links to statutes, recent and upcoming events, and much more. With a KDC membership, you have full access to the briefs, articles, membership directory, cases, and more.
• Expert Information.
If you need help finding an expert or have questions about a specific expert, just send an e-mail to the KDC office (KY.Def.Csl@att.net) with as much information as you can provide. An e-mail will be forwarded to the KDC membership asking for their assistance while providing your contact information.
• Luncheons.
Periodically, we will schedule regional one-hour CLE luncheons for members. These are informal gatherings which present the opportunity to relax, socialize, and learn from other practicing attorneys, judges, and experts.
• Young Lawyers Section.
In the Spring of 2005, a YLS program was presented by a KDC member. Since that time, several social events have been scheduled and attended, as well as a breakfast with a Jefferson County appellate judge. Although the programs are planned with the interests of young attorneys in mind, all KDC members are encouraged to participate, no matter their age or years in practice.
